Compact, durable, robust: New worm gear unit series SMI from NORD

Bargteheide – NORD DRIVESYSTEMS now offers a new range of worm gear units in a robust, one-piece UNICASE housing in five sizes with a maximum torque of 427 Nm. New, larger output bearings allow users to choose increased shaft diameters than the previously available series. In addition, the large bearings ensure a much extended service life. The aluminum permanent mould casting process was optimized for the SMI series, resulting in an especially smooth surface that prevents dirt build-up. Closed SMI worm gear versions are washdown-capable, and can therefore be easily cleaned along with other systems during plant cleaning processes. If required, these gear units are available with NORD’s NSD tupH surface conversion treatment which transforms their durability with up to seven times the hardness of the base aluminum material, providing excellent protection against acids and alkaline solutions. A synthetic long-life lubricant makes the worm gears maintenance-free during their entire service life. Equipped with oil gauge screws, the gear units are now also suitable for use in hazardous areas.

Italy’s only private brewery builds Europe’s most modern brew house: NORD DRIVESYSTEMS supplies powerful drives

During 40 years of continuous around-the-clock operation, the tanks and vats in the Forst specialty beer brewery’s old brew house produced 25 million hectoliters of beer. Now, since brewing technology has progressed, especially with regard to energy aspects, the management decided to build a completely new brew house which was to operate highly efficiently, comply with the latest safety requirements, and produce the lowest possible emissions. The brewery in Algund, South Tirol, commissioned leading German companies to construct five large vats, complete with brewing technology and piping systems, a newly designed water supply, a malting plant with twelve silos, and three separate storage vats. NORD DRIVESYSTEMS custom-tailored all necessary drive units.

SK 200E Size 4 AC Vector Drive Series Offers Expanded Power Ratings

The SK 200E series is a highly versatile line of distributed AC vector drives customizable for specific applications. NORD has expanded the power capacity of the SK 200E up to 30 HP with the new size 4 drives. NORD is the only manufacturer that offers a motor-mount variable frequency drive at these ratings.

Lightweight, high

performance, washproof: New open or closed washdown versions of NORD's helical bevel gear units

Holcim, one of the largest producers of construction material worldwide, relies on drive technology from NORD DRIVESYSTEMS

In its cement plants and concrete factories in Croatia, geared motors of different performance classes are used. Heavy duty is no problem for the NORD products - they are ready for any challenge. That is why both companies have now completed a three-year-contract for the exchange of older drives.

Easy-to-use distributed frequency inverters: Configuration and diagnosis of NORD's SK 200E series via a system bus

SK 200E frequency inverters from NORD DRIVESYSTEMS are equipped with a proprietary system bus that allows for user-friendly, cost-efficient wiring in the field. Connected to the fieldbus or an Industrial Ethernet system via a bus technology unit that acts as a gateway, the system bus can link up to four frequency inverters. Thus, four drive units are connected to the higher-level communication system at one single point. All data is thus available at every diagnosis interface, i.e. users can access all data sets from every device connected to the system bus via RS232 interfaces at both the inverters and the technology unit.

A very special project – Heavy duty work for industrial gear units from NORD DRIVESYSTEMS in the Alps

In an extremely demanding construction project in the Swiss Alps, at an altitude of around 1700 metres and almost 600 metres inside a mountain, large chambers are being excavated to form the new expanded underground centre of a pumped storage hydroelectric power station that will increase its present power output from 480 MW to 1480 MW. With an extreme incline of 45 degrees and a height difference of approximately 180 m, conveyor systems in a sub-station are transporting 500 t of excavated material per hour, around the clock, using conveyor belts that are driven by NORD industrial gear units.
