Faiveley Transport, world leader in the event recorder market

Faiveley Transport has won a series of important contracts for event recorders thanks to its reliable and adaptable solutions.

Faiveley Transport, world leader in the event recorder market
Faiveley Transport’s event recorders stand out first and foremost for their reliability.  Analysing customer feedback has enabled new optimised programmes to be launched.  One of the design differences is the reduced number of electronic card components, ensuring that only the cards necessary are used. Consequently, Faiveley Transport’s customers can now boast an exceptional MTBF (Mean Time between Failures) of 170,000 hours without the need for preventative maintenance, with the exception of a battery change every 19 years.  In addition, Faiveley Transport is undoubtedly a step ahead on security, being one of the first to offer SIL4.

Faiveley Transport’s range of solutions has been extended offering modular solutions. It is possible to tailor the solutions to meet the needs of all customers, from the simplest to the most complex request. The brand new TOM P is an entry-level product, in terms of cost, that complies with all the norms and the functional requirements.  Faiveley Transport’s range extends to the TOM 3U19 with fire-resistant tape and security functions.  These recorders conform to the IEEE 1482.1 standard and feature an impact resistance memory.  Faiveley Transport can also offer highly advanced versions which provide far greater functionality than simply recording the speed of the train and the distances travelled.  In particular, these versions can help prevent issues by identifying driving errors or by using a dead man’s control device which checks the driver’s ability to drive the train.  They also allow for preventative maintenance.

All the models are designed on a modular basis, which includes the vast majority of signals to be processed, allowing customers the freedom to choose the options which suit them best: fire-resistant tape, SIL2-SIL4 security, permitted voltage range of 24Vdc – 37.5Vdc – 72Vdc – 96Vdc – 110Vdc, ERTMS recorder or radio dumps.  All these solutions meet international railway standards.  For instance, they remain operational at temperatures as low as -40ºC.

All models can be used in conjunction with SAM software which means that analogue and digital signals being transmitted by the train’s equipment connected to the event recorders can be displayed and analysed.  This simple and user-friendly tool can simplify legal inquiries, driver monitoring, installation and maintenance.

Individual railway operators can, however, have even more specific requirements. Faiveley Transport adapts to their customers’ needs. As an example, Faiveley Transport has just been awarded an iconic project on Siemens Transportation’s Velaro D.  The deciding factor, among other elements, was the ability to manage the interoperability of the different signalling systems through which the Velaro will need to pass, and the need to personalise the display of the data processing software.
