IE2 Motors
NORD DRIVESYSTEMS is bringing to the market IE2 high-efficiency motors compliant with the IEC 60034-30 standard. For practically all its IE2 motors NORD has kept the same capacity and introduced new technological solutions to improve their efficiency.
IE2 certification, which replaces the previous EFF1 class, will be mandatory in Europe with effect from 16 June 2011 for a large number of electric motors (power range from 0.75 kW to 375 kW in S1 duty). In addition to complying with the new standards, more demanding in terms of energy savings, Nord has incorporated many improvements in its IE2 motors. More active materials are used in the stator, for example, the sheet-metal is of better quality, more copper has been used and the windings have been optimized. These economical motors naturally provide benefits for the user: as well as better efficiency, they run cooler and the drive has longer life. These optimizations also result in larger power reserves, opening up new possibilities for drive system design. The IEC 60034 standard will be used as a model worldwide for reinforcing the energy efficiency requirements for rotating electrical machines. In Europe the process will involve several phases and will be completed in 2017. By then IE3 class motors will have to have still better performance and show energy losses 10 to 15% lower than those of IE2 motors.
