A VERLINDE portal frame with variable headroom beneath hook
The commercial vehicle body maker SMR, based in Nice, in the south of France, has been using a VERLINDE portal frame with a 2 metric ton lifting capacity for the last few weeks.
Its headroom beneath hook is unusual in that it can be adjusted from 4 metres in low position to 7 metres in high position. Two manual winches are used to adjust the height. The portal frame is fitted with 4 swivel wheels two of which have locking brakes. It can be moved, empty, or even with a load by hand pushing thus allowing SMR teams to use it in several workshops, or even outside. The hoist unit used on the portal frame is an electrically powered chain hoist of the EUROCHAIN VL type fitted with a variable speed electric trolley.
The portal frame is used to lift cumbersome equipment from industrial vehicles: domestic waste containers, jib cranes on public works machines, truck bodies, etc.
"This new portal frame saves a lot of time and is very convenient because previously these manipulations had to be performed with a power lift truck" says Stéphanie CALVIERA, Manager of SMR.
